Great Scott! That’s the Real Brad Majors! Rocky Horror Comes to Maker’s Craft Brewery.

by | Jun 16, 2022

Fishnet lovers and fans of eccentric scientists, listen up because this one’s for you. One of the greatest musical films of all time with a world-renown cult following is coming alive at Maker’s Craft Brewery next weekend. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is landing for two extra special shows presented by Fishnet Ink.

While Fishnet Ink will be showcasing one of the best shadow casts of all time on both nights, Saturday’s performance features an extraordinary guest. Barry Bostwick from the original cast will be onsite for the evening. He’ll be signing autographs, judging a Brad Majors costume contest, giving a short talk, and saying, “DAMMIT, JANET; I LOVE YOU.” You might have been to Rocky Horror before, but you’ve never seen one with full-blown original cast energy.

Oh, and Maker’s Craft Brewery? They’re doing more than hosting; they’re in on it too. They’re pouring a special release beer. The taps will be running a Dammit Janet Ale, which you can get with the beer ticket included in your access to the show. Rumor has it the ale might just gaze longingly at your jewelry and prefer men with not too many muscles.

For the uninitiated, Rocky Horror Picture Show is a musical comedy horror film from 1975 meant to parody classic horror films from the 30s and 40s. The storyline follows a young couple whose car breaks down and seeks help – only to find a castle filled with oddballs in elaborate costumes. The madness ensues from there.

Despite an initially cold reception and relegation to the ‘midnight film’ circuit, the show eventually gathered a deeply loyal and engaged following. Audiences began participating in the movie – talking back and shouting out at the characters. It’s now standard practice for an entire shadow cast to mime the actions on a film screen and lipsync the lines of characters. Audience members frequently come in full costume as well. Screenings have become more of a show than movie watching, with shadow casts and audiences creating a thoroughly engaging experience.

Over the decades, Rocky Horror became a cultural institution in the LGBTQ+ community as it provided a safe space to meet and connect with others who identified with the themes of sexual liberation and flexible gender roles. Local shows have undoubtedly helped thousands find LGBT+ friends, community, and self-discovery in the decades before widespread internet and social media.

These days the Rocky Horror Picture Show has a global following with dozens of subcultures, fandoms, and cults on the web. Shadow-casts perform in dozens of cities each year, drawing tens of thousands of participating audience members. Fishnet Ink is Hampton Roads local shadow cast that traces its roots back well past 1989. They’ve become well known for their raving shows full of antics and shenanigans. With their decades of sub-culture history and experience, they’re sure to put on a full Rocky Horror experience.
