Time travelers delight! Your chance to step into the past is here. This weekend, Hunter House Victorian Museum will transport you to 1910’s Norfolk–Edwardian flare and all. You won’t be traveling for leisure, though; you’re there on business. There’s a killer afoot, and your task is to suss out the culprit.
Death at a Funeral: Edwardian Murder Mystery takes place this Saturday and Sunday, starting every 30 minutes, from 5:00 pm through 9:00 pm.
Back when streetcars zipped down Granby Street, and steam-powered ocean liners filled the Elizabeth River, Norfolk looked a bit different. There was no Town Point Park or high-rise office towers. The streets were bustling full of folks, baseball was all the rage, the vast majority of people were illiterate, and medical practices like leeching were still the norm. Women were fighting for the right to vote, and crowds took to the street to press for booze prohibition.
A few particular facts remain unchanged back then. People still felt envy, greed, and an appetite for vengeance–often committing heinous acts of crime. People still died and were mourned.
When you step into Hunter House Victorian Museum this weekend, you’ll be arriving at the funeral of a prominent woman of Norfolk. While surrounded by her friends, family, and colleagues of the time, something terrible happens. Another death, a murder, right in the middle of this moment of mourning. And oh, it’s more than a murder; it’s a mystery to solve.
Time-traveling attendees need to search the house, question funeral-goers and connect the clues. Actors from Hunter House will be in full Edwardian-era garb with stories of what they saw, what they heard, and where they were when it all went down.
How are the deaths connected? Why would someone commit such a wicked act? Who had the most to lose or the most to gain? Could the murderer come for you next?
If you can put yourself in the mindset of a 1910’s Norfolk citizen, think like a criminal, and discern truth from lies, you might have a chance to solve the case.

This delightful, if not devious, interactive evening commences at historic Freemason’s Hunter House Victorian Museum on September 25th and 26th, 5:00 pm -9:00 pm. The cost is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Costumes are encouraged, masks are mandatory.
