Anyone who’s walked through Ghent has seen the brightly decorated sunflower wall embellishing the corner of 22nd Street and Colonial Avenue. This well-known mural adorns the side of Yorgo’s Bageldashery, the finest bagel establishment in the city.
Yorgo’s is well-known in Norfolk for serving up New York-style bagels since 1993. In addition to offering the best bagels in Norfolk, Yorgo’s offers a large variety of signature sandwiches and yummy treats. Whether this is the first time you hear about Yorgo’s or the establishment is a regular Saturday morning stop for you, National Bagel Day on January 15th is the perfect excuse to pop in and grab a bite.
Yorgo’s Bagels are Everything
Yorgo’s offers a wide variety of bagel flavors, from classics like everything and cinnamon raisin to more funky options like jalapeño to seasonal flavors like pumpkin and sundried tomato. All bagels are made fresh daily and are vegan with 100% organic flour. Gluten-free bagel selections are also available.
Pair your perfectly created bagel with distinct cream cheese flavors such as cinnamon sugar, honey pecan, veggie, and herb. There’s also the option for a plain bagel and cream cheese for the purists out there. Vegan cream cheese is also offered, alongside a wide variety of vegan and vegetarian sandwich choices.
If you’re craving more than just a bagel, the sandwiches are just as delicious, and range from breakfast burritos smothered in chili to a vegan Philly cheesesteak. Yorgo’s also has the option to build your very own breakfast sandwich. Pair your sandwich with one of their cozy and comforting soups to warm up on a cold day.
A Place for Community
There’s an immediate sense of comfort and familiarity when you step foot into Yorgo’s. The staff is quick to greet customers when they walk through the door, and there’s a strong feeling of community among patrons as they all gather with the same goal – enjoying fresh, hot bagels. There are touches of unique décor throughout, including a bright and colorful painting along one entire wall, pennies in the shape of half-eaten bagels embedded in the tables, and last but not least, a bagel awning.
Yorgo’s offers merch such as hats, shirts, and to-go mugs so that you can show your love for the best bagel shop in town!
Taking it to the Next Level
Yorgo’s has become a Norfolk staple among Ghent residents, providing the ideal grab-and-go breakfast spot with quality food and coffee. Because of its popularity, they can quickly fill up on the weekends. The restaurant made an exciting announcement late last year- they will be expanding to the upstairs space. While additional seating will be part of the plan, there’s much more to the expansion than just extra tables and chairs. The second floor will offer an event space and bar area for customers to enjoy hand-crafted cocktails. Bagels and brews? Yes, please! The upstairs expansion will also house a yoga studio by co-owner Kim Peterman.
Check out their menu and get a spot in line or some pickup for National Bagel Day.
