Sunnyside Collective is a crew of like-minded creatives dominating the Hampton Roads house music scene. The next installment of their three-part summer series boat party, dubbed Nautical Nonsense, brings the best House Music DJs aboard the Carrie B for a celebration sure to make waves.
The sunset cruise, departing from Waterside, features a jam-packed lineup of local house DJs from 15-year veterans like Mr. Nuñez to the newest sounds produced by Sunnyside’s good friend Initial Eyes. They’ll be going back-to-back with one of the hottest new tastemakers in the area, Lady Raine, while the boys of Animal Haus will keep the music flowing all night long. If the promise of three hours afloat amongst other EDM fans and a cash bar isn’t enough, all attendees receive admission to a special guest DJ after-party at Slowdive Norfolk.
Their self-proclaimed brand: “just a group of weird friends spreading this infectious weirdness through music, art, and love,” makes it clear – the SunnySide Collective crew does not shy away from being unique. However, long before there was SunnySide Collective, there were SunnySide Sessions. Norfolk resident Glen Holder would invite his closest friends to bring food and drinks, any DJs or music of their choosing, and enjoy each other’s company. These hangouts became routine for nearly a year until they decided to branch out and bring house music to the forefront of the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. Soon enough, they were throwing a onesie rooftop rave, a party aboard a pirate ship, speakeasy-esque events behind a burrito bar on Granby, and planning a specially curated soundstage at Elements music festival. Their goal is to put on events that patrons never forget – and leave them returning for more. Last year, their team expanded to establish a presence in Richmond and cultivate the house music scene in the state’s capital.
This upcoming party sets sail on August 6th, and while tickets are on sale until August 4th, it isn’t your only chance to catch some of Norfolk’s biggest techno tastemakers. Another boat party is planned for September 3rd, though if you snag tickets to both parties, they come at a discount. You can catch the details here: https://sunnyside-collective.ticketleap.com/.
