Norfolk seemingly had a solid enough taco scene until Union Taco opened earlier this year. This urban taqueria is quickly gaining traction as one of the best restaurants in town and is giving other Mexican eateries a run for their money. Located on 25th street in the heart of the Railroad District, Union Taco is easy for any Norfolk local to access when you get a craving for some Mexican cuisine.
The Fare
Union Taco offers a wide range of Mexican dishes inspired by Pan Pacific and South American cuisines, from street tacos to heartier options such as giant ahi burritos and quesa-birria’s. Customers don’t have to worry about a lack of options across all menus – from the margarita flavor options to the taco variety; Union Taco has more than enough variety for even the pickiest of eaters.
Kick things off with one of their delectable appetizers, such as the shishito peppers, homemade guacamole, or elote, aka Mexican street corn. Each of these starters pairs well with Union Taco’s freshly crafted margaritas. Give the Pau Hana a try for a fun twist on a classic margarita, offering flavors of charred pineapple and smoky bitters. One sip of this drink will have you feeling like you’re relaxing on a beach in Cancun.
For the main course, try one of the many varieties of street tacos, including bulgogi beef, Bahn mi, and tako (octopus), for the more adventurous foodies out there. Tacos are sold a la carte, providing ample opportunity to mix and match different flavor combinations.
If you’re looking for a more hearty and all-inclusive meal, give one of the bowls or burritos a try. Flavors range from classic chicken or steak burrito bowls to more eclectic options such as ahi burritos and chicken katsu.
What Makes Union Taco Unique
Union Taco is a true Norfolk gem, providing a relaxed and funky atmosphere paired with a casual cantina ambiance. The staff is friendly, more than willing to help you make the difficult decision from their extensive food and drink menu. Another perk is that the restaurant is spacious, providing plenty of seating so that customers don’t have to wait for an hour only to get seated in a back corner by the noisy kitchen. Every seat provides views of the beautiful space, from wood-paneled walls and exposed brick to whimsical sugar skulls adorning the walls and cozy string lights warming up the space. There’s also no other place like Union Taco in the Park Place neighborhood, providing a new and exciting dinner spot for locals to enjoy.
Last but not least, Union Taco has happy hour on weekdays from 4 – 7 pm, including $5 margaritas and $2 off appetizers, beer, and well drinks.
Union Taco has it all – delicious and fresh Mexican food, excellent and downright affordable drinks (especially during happy hour), a warm and inviting atmosphere, and a central location easy to get to from anywhere in Norfolk. Head to Union Taco to see for yourself how spec-taco-lar it is!
