Norfolk’s coffee scene is solid, with each coffee shop adding its unique flair to Norfolk. As such a vibrant and artistic city, locals have found a distinct way to express their creativity through the craft of roasting coffee beans and making specialty lattes.
Norfolk residents have taken notice. Coffee shops are the perfect place for ODU students to study, for friends to catch up over a cup of joe, or to serve as a change in scenery for those working remotely. Coffee shops provide an unparalleled ambiance for a calm and cozy environment. One well-recognized establishment, Café Blanca, was a staple among coffee shop enthusiasts. From the uniquely crafted latte flavors to the tasty food selection, Café Blanca had something for everyone.
The Buzz on Blanca
Café Blanca fans will be thrilled to know that this premium gathering spot is back, serving up the beans, as blanca All Day. Their refreshed location still sits on Granby Street in the Riverview Neighborhood. A European-style coffee bar with craft cocktails, wine, and snacks–visitors can expect the same classic cozy feel and whimsical flare.
As you walk through the doors, the striking, bright blue artwork complements the rest of the neutral décor admirably. The best part is since it is off the beaten path from other downtown or Ghent hot spots, it’s not too crowded or stressful to find a seat. There’s always a gentle buzz of activity, but you don’t have so much stimulation around that you can’t hear yourself think or hear the person across from you talking.
Blanca Brews and Bubbly
Whether you’re looking for a morning pick-me-up or unwinding in the evening, Riverview’s eclectic café has what you need.
While sometimes challenging for coffee shops, blanca All Day’s lattes are the ideal balance of flavorful and subtle. Their latte flavors are unique, without being overly adventurous to the point of clashing flavors that leave you wanting to cleanse your palate with another flavor.
The “Night Moves” menu offers exciting and adventurous sips inspired by European cocktails. One option, the Café Corretto, is a cocktail inspired by the owner’s time living in Italy. It consists of a shot of espresso with a choice of amaro, an Italian herbal liqueur.
Blanca Bites
Their impressive menu doesn’t stop at drinks. You can enjoy one of many tasty options for fare, such as fries, chips, and olives to enjoy with a martini – a perfect Saturday night. They also have weekly specials, ranging from sandwiches to soups and salads.
For more delicious fare from Blanca, be sure to also try Blanca Food + Wine, the sister restaurant to blanca All Day, offering a full dinner menu and extensive wine list and cocktails.
Open hours are 8:30 am-3 pm Tuesday-Thursday, and 08:30 AM-9 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. Check them out on Instagram to find out more about their current specials.
